Emily Mantell

Cellist Emily Lewis Mantell received her Bachelor’s degree in Cello Performance from the Chicago Musical College at Roosevelt University, where she studied with Karl Fruh. She is a busy freelancer in the Chicago area with her husband, violist/violinist Matthew Mantell.

She is the principal cellist with the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra and is a member of the Chicago Sinfonietta.

During the summers, she is on the faculty of the Birch Creek Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin. Ms. Mantell teaches at Saint Xavier University (Chicago) and Trinity Christian College (Palos Heights), as well as from her home studio in Orland Park. Her daughter Sonia, also a cellist, is a second-year Masters student at DePaul University School of Music and principal cellist with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.
