Laura Fairfield

Laura Fairfield, horn, has been a member of the Chicago Sinfonietta since 1987 and the Illinois Philharmonic since 1990. Laura completed her formal education at Denver University and the University of Northern Colorado. Since then, Laura has been the horn professor at Illinois Wesleyan University from 1981-2001 and was a member of the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra. Her career as a musician has given her the opportunity to perform with reputable orchestras such as the Hamburg State Opera, Hamburg Sinfoniker, Honolulu Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Ravinia Festival Orchestra, Lake Forest Symphony, the Rockford Symphony, and Mr. Jack Daniel’s Original Silver Cornet Band.

Laura is a teacher at the Northern Illinois University Community School of the Arts in DeKalb. She is on the faculty at Birch Creek Performing Arts Center (WI) during its symphony-related session. In addition to these things, Laura is an active member at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sycamore, IL. Laura and her husband, John (who is also a hornist for the Sinfonietta), have a daughter Elizabeth who is studying violin at St. Olaf College.
