Amy Rhodes

Amy Rhodes is an active freelance musician in the Chicago area. She has a Performer’s Certificate from Northwestern University and has been a member of the Chicago Sinfonietta since 1989. She is also principal bassoon of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra since 1998, and has played with the Lyric Opera, Grant Park, and Milwaukee Symphony Orchestras as well as the Chicago Opera Theater and the Joffrey Ballet orchestras.

Before moving to Chicago, Ms. Rhodes lived in England and played in the London Repertoire Orchestra under Dr. Ruth Gibbs. While living in England, she studied with William Waterhouse. Ms. Rhodes also lived in the New England area where she studied with Sherman Walt (Boston Symphony Orchestra), played in the New Hampshire and Portland Symphonies, and was a member of the University of New Hampshire faculty woodwind quintet. She was also a member of the New Hampshire Music Festival for twelve seasons.

Ms. Rhodes can be heard on recordings with the Chicago Sinfonietta and Chicago Opera Theater, as well as the Elgin Symphony broadcasts on WFMT. Her live performance of Lars Erik Larsson’s Concertino has been broadcast on Wisconsin Public Radio.
