We Shall Overcome
Bring your family to experience music and dance honoring an American hero. The Chicago Sinfonietta's annual Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is "for area music lovers, the place to be" (Chicago Tribune 2005) to celebrate the legacy of this visionary leader.
The program
begins with the Chicago Sinfonietta performing Tchaikovsky’s Romeo
and Juliet and Michael Abels’ American Variations on Swing
Low, Sweet Chariot.
The Chicago Sinfonietta will then be joined by Chicago’s Deeply Rooted Dance Theater to perform World Premiere choreography by Kevin Iega Jeff to Brazilian composer Guarnieri’s Three Dances for Orchestra. The Chicago Children's Choir is featured in Bernstein's glorious Chichester Psalms and Steffe’s traditional Battle Hymn of the Republic.
