Daniel Bernard Roumain, violin

2006: A Space Symphony

In the final concert of the 2005-2006 season, the Chicago Sinfonietta presents one of its most fascinating and unique collaborations. Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR) makes his Chicago orchestral debut performing his Voodoo Violin Concerto no. 1 with the Chicago Sinfonietta. Described as “Beethoven meets Lenny Kravitz," this African-American composer/musician creates an amalgam of funk, rock, hip-hop and classical music.

Adler Planetarium

The finale will feature the Chicago Sinfonietta performing Holst’s The Planets with the angelic voices of the Chicago Children's Choir. Astronomer and digital photography virtuoso, Dr. José Francisco Salgado of the Adler Planetarium, presents a spectacular, multi-media extravaganza created specially for these concerts. Throughout the entire 50-minute piece, images of our solar system and the cosmos will be projected on a giant screen, complementing Holst’s haunting music.
