At a time when the environment is a subject of much discussion, the Sinfonietta speaks up in the universal language of music in this unique co-presentation with the Chicago Humanities Festival and the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum.
Native America flute virtuoso R. Carlos Nakai explores our ties to the land and sky, while an international perspective is showcased in two other contemporary compositions. Then, the Sinfonietta uses the majestic beauty and passion of Beethoven’s 5th as a musical metaphor for the changes, some subtle and some devastating, in our environment. This dramatic finale is performed with stunning visuals created by the Nature Museum.
